Hundreds of New West Tremont Ave. Apartments Planned
Press Release
By Ely Portillo, The Charlotte Observer
A developer is planning to build hundreds of new apartments on West Tremont Avenue, according to city documents posted Friday.
The rezoning request from Atlanta-based Pollack Shores would allow 402 apartments on a site currently occupied by one-story commercial buildings near the intersection with South Tryon Street. The site totals 8.4 acres.
According to the plans filed by Pollack Shores, the site could be developed in three parts, with the apartment building in the first phase taking up about half the site. The other portions of the site, farther from Tryon Street, could be developed in the future with unspecified uses allowed under transit-oriented zoning. That could include retail, more apartments, offices or other dense, mixed uses.
The plan is scheduled for a hearing before Charlotte City Council on May 16.
Pollack Shores has been a prolific apartment developer in Charlotte in recent years. The company is working to finish the Gibson building at Central Avenue and 10th Street in Plaza Midwood and the 5115 Park apartments on Park Road, near SouthPark. Each of those totals hundreds of new apartments.
